Save Data vs Mod APK
Save files often remain compatible with newer game versions, and unmodified games can generally receive normal updates after restoration. Compatibility still depends on the game and virtual environment.
| Feature | Save Data | Mod APK |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | Restore into a compatible virtual environment | Install a modified APK |
| Game APK | Can use the original unmodified game APK | Uses a modified game APK |
| Restoring an older save on a newer game | Often works across game versions when the developer keeps the save format compatible; not guaranteed | A modified APK is tied to a particular build and may need a version-matched replacement |
| Updating the game after restoration | Users can generally update the unmodified game normally, including through Google Play where supported; restored progress depends on game and virtual-space compatibility | Standard store updates may fail for modified APKs due to package or signing differences; an updated mod may be required |
| Original local progress | Stays separate when restored inside CloneX | Depends on installation method |
| Online functionality | Depends on the game and virtual environment | Depends on the game and modification |
| Compatibility | Depends on game version and save structure | Depends on game version and APK |
